Vehicle Boost

is a manually operated boost that the player can use by pressing the gas button twice rapidly. This feature is available in all three Vigilante 8 titles, but its presentation varies with each game. In Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, the Boost simply gives your vehicle a quick thrust with the sound of screeching tires. Specifically in these two games, a Boost can also be performed by holding the gas, letting go, and quickly pressing the gas again. If the Boost is attempted from a stationary to near stationary speed too quickly, there will only be the sound that plays for it, without it actually being performed. The Boost can only be performed as long as any of the vehicle's wheels are on the ground. In Vigilante 8: Arcade, the Boost shows the vehicle shoot fire out of their exhaust pipe while giving them a quick thrust of speed. It can also be performed in mid-air. A Vehicle Boost can be used approximately once every 1.5 seconds.

- In the Dreamcast version of Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, if the player has Accel/Gas enabled on the joystick, as long as the joystick is pushed upward, Vehicle Boosts are performed automatically.
