Vigilante 8 Wiki
Interceptor Missiles

Intercepter Missiles are small missiles that, when fired, will continuously follow the targeted opponent until it hits something, be it the target or any other object. They are typically placed on top of the equipped vehicle. When equipped, they have twelve rounds to begin with. They appear in every Vigilante 8 title to date. The Intercepter Missiles are best used when one wishes to damage the opponent while collecting other weapons to further harm the opponent.

Fires a flare that will lead enemy tracking weapons away from your vehicle. Fires a missile without releasing it, causing your vehicle to rocket forward for a short period of time. Also removes fire from vehicle (Excludes first installment). Fires two to four missiles at the same time.

Afterburner Speedboost Power[]

Each vehicle gets different power of the speed boost when using the Afterburner combo. The speed boost does not match the acceleration, nor the top speed. For instance: the WonderWagon has matching top speed with the Xanadu RV, but the former has better acceleration. Despite this, the Xanadu RV gets one of the strongest speed boosts, while the WonderWagon gets one of the weakest speed boosts in the second installment. This is evident from some vehicles engine heard switching gears sooner (and for longer in 2nd Offense; the gear only switches once at higher speed), than others, as well as the distance made from jumps.

In the first installment specifically, doing a regular acceleration boost right before a jump can help get the vehicle a further distance. It can also be a good idea on certain jumps, since in the first installment, the vehicles tend to flip and rotate on certain jumps, and the front wheels could seem to be the cause; a well timed acceleration boost can prevent that as doing so lifts the front of the vehicle; though, it won't help if the vehicle is too big or long.

Trivia[]

  • In Vigilante 8: Arcade, the Missile Swarm combo costs three rounds, and the missiles that are fired have no homing capabilities against enemies, but instead, homes in on enemy projectiles, making it more like the Bull's Eye Rocket's Bastion Rockets combo.
