Hoverpod icon
The Hoverpods is a vehicular upgrade that made its debut in Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense. The Hoverpod is an upgrade that turns the player's vehicle's wheels into technological devices that allow the vehicle to float in mid-air. As with the other transformations, vehicles with the Hoverpods active will automatically eject them once the vehicle has taken enough damage. They're wide bell shaped objects randomly laying around in the Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Arizona, California, Florida, And Original Vigilante 8 stages.
Trivia[]
Agent R. Chase with the Hoverpod upgrade in Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense
- If the player presses the gas button twice in a rapid motion, they will receive a boost to the upgrade and will momentarily float higher than normal.
- In the Dreamcast version, pressing the gas button and the switch target button at the same time will cancel the hover upgrade, whereas in the Playstation and Nintendo 64 versions, both weapon switch buttons must be pressed at the same time instead.
- Similarly to the Hydrofloaters, the Hoverpods limit the vehicle's movement a bit, as it prioritizes 8 directions, moreso 4, leading to the vehicle moving diagonally and nondiagonally. The vehicle will move slower when moving toward the former, but move faster when moving toward the latter.
- As with the other transformations, in the Dreamcast version specifically, the icon for them will blink to indicate to the player that they will have the Hoverpods ejected if their vehicle takes further damage, once their vehicle has taken enough damage. They will also be repaired upon touching another Hoverpods activator.
