Astronaut Bob O. is a fictional character in the vehicle action series Vigilante 8.

Overview

Bob O. is an astronaut with bizarre mannerisms and a love of bananas. The first sightings of Bob O. coincided with the destruction of NASA's Space Defense Labs at Cape Canaveral in the fall of 1977 (which he was presumably responsible for). Due to anti-social behavior, people regarded him as a threat to society, and named him "Bob O." due to a name tag located on his space suit. When the new auto skirmishes began to take place in 1977, eyewitness reports would identify him among the vehicles present. Soon after the auto wars began, Bob O. developed a strange obsession with the Garbage Man and began to follow him wherever he went.

Endings

Bob O.'s Moon Trekker being taken away by The Garbage Man in his ending in Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense.

In his ending, Bob O. finally catches up to an unconscious Garbage Man and manages to get him out of his vehicle to get a closer look at him. All of a sudden, the Garbage Man flings Bob O. off his vehicle and breaks his helmet, revealing Bob O. to be a chimpanzee. The Garbage Man proceeds to drive off with the Moon Trekker as Bob O. is left behind.

Bob O. drives the Moon Trekker, which is essentially a stolen moon rover. It has good avoidance and acceleration, however, it wasn't very fast.

Trivia

• According to Astronaut Bob O.'s Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense bio, Bob O. has a weakness for oatmeal and fruits, hinting towards his true identity.
  • Several of Bob O's character quotes also hint at his true identity, along with his special weapon battle cry.
• Bob O. himself doesn't speak at all during the course of the game. Instead, he uses a voice recording from one of the previous NASA flight controllers to quickly fast-forward or reverse to piece together various quotes and statements to form his own dialogue.
• In the Japanese version, Bob O does not make a monkey sound when he uses his special weapon. Instead, he says the name of his special weapon, "Collector".
